Ipitanga River is the main tributary of river bay Joanes, and used for various human purposes, such as public supply, industrial activity, irrigation, navigation, recreation, waste dilution, among others. However, despite the existing human activities, the behavior of the variables studied in this work did not exceed the values predicted by the CONAMA Resolution 357/051. There is evidence that they have been changed over the years, jeopardizing the future of the environmental balance spring. This fact is ratified due to the occurrence of some discrepancies in results of some variables, such as the good correlation between the BOD and turbidity, and ammonium ion with the total phosphorus. Presenting, signs of degradation in relation to the quality of its water by the volume of effluent released. The assumption considers the statistical evaluation of these variables in dams the of Ipitanga river as a possible tool to identify points for improvement and implementation of a plan for using and occupation of urban and environmental preservation. In order to assess and predict future scenarios of damaging the quality of dams the Ipitanga river, so that it will be possible to understand the changes of their water and anthropogenic influences. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.20130063O Rio Ipitanga é o principal tributário da bacia hidrográfica do rio Joanes, e utilizado para diversos usos humanos, tais como: abastecimento público, atividade industrial, irrigação, navegação, lazer, diluição de efluentes, entre outros. Porém, apesar das atividades antropogênicas, o comportamento das variáveis estudadas neste trabalho não ultrapassou os valores preditos pela Resolução 357/05 do CONAMA. Todavia, há indícios de que elas estão sendo alteradas com o passar dos anos, colocando em risco oequilíbrio ambiental deste manancial. Este fato é ratificado porinterações encontradas nos resultados de algumas variáveis estudadas, como a boa correlação entre a DBO e turbidez, e do íon amônio com o fósforo total. Contudo, os sinais de degradação no que diz respeito à qualidade de suas águas pelo volume de efluente lançado. O pressuposto considera a avaliação estatística destas variáveis estudadas na água das represas do rio Ipitanga, como um possível instrumento para identificar a necessidade de um monitoramento sistemático e implantação de um planejamento quanto ao uso e ocupação urbana e preservação ambiental. Visa, portanto, avaliar e antever cenários futuros prejudiciais à qualidade da água das represas do Rio Ipitanga, de tal forma que cada vez mais seja possível entender as alterações hídricas e suas influências antrópicas. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.2013006
