Neste artigo são apontados alguns dos caminhos para a produção de insumos químicos, tanto a partir da dinâmica da Terra - analisados à luz da Teoria Tectônica de Placas, quanto àqueles obtidos de atividades microbianas.  Estes dois caminhos revelaram a existência do Domínio Archaea que conduziram a proposição de nova árvore filogenética feita a partir do estudo de subunidades de RNA. Assim, o foco central do artigo é relacionar os diversos produtos oferecidos pelo vulcanismo com aqueles do metabolismo microbiano, na tentativa de se compreender sua abundância relativa na biosfera. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.20120058This article discusses some ways to the production of chemicals from both the dynamics of the Earth - analyzed in the light of plate tectonics theory, as those obtained from microbial activity - indicating the advances that have revealed the existence of the Domain Archaea, which led the proposition new phylogenetic tree made from RNA subunits. Thus the central focus of this paper is to relate the various products offered by volcanism with those of microbial metabolism, in an attempt to understand their relative abundance in the biosphere. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.2012005
