Tungiasis is a parasitic disease of humans and animals caused by fleas of the genus Tunga, including the Tunga penetrans species. A survey of T. penetrans in dogs residing in the Community Nossa Senhora in the Livramento, Amazon, was performed, in Corrêa et al., Revista Brasileira de Higiene e Sanidade Animal (v.8, n.4) p. 79 – 87 out dez (2014) 80 order to describe the symptoms of tungiasis these animals. 78 animals were evaluated, of which, 75.6% were affected by the parasite, especially in palmar and plantar pads. Was found on average 8 parasites per animal, with tissue lesion of 2 cm diameter, with erythematosus aspect. These results reinforce the need to adopt preventive measures, mainly because this community is located in a tourist beach area.
