Among the Mysidacea collected during the cruises of RV Tansei-rnaru, two new species belonging to the Gen. Heteroerythrops were found. A species, H. tanseii n. sp. closely allied to H. purpura O. S. TATTERSALL, but can be identified by the structure of eyes. Another one, H. microps n. sp. can be easily distinguished from other species of the genus by remarkable structure of, eyes, antennal peduncle and second thoracic endopod. Introduction Since Gen. Heteroerythrops was described by O.S. TATTERSALL for a single adult female, H. purpura, from the south west of Africa, no specimens of the genus have been recorded from any area of the world up to date. The present new species found a great distance from the locality of type species are the second and the third species of the genus, and the species of this genus seem to be widely distributed in mesopelagic or bathypelagic life throughout the world, though its occurrence is very rare. The type specimens of the new species are lodged in the Ocean Research Institute. Genus Heteroerythrops 1955: Heteroerythrops, O. S. TATTERSALL, p. 121 Diagnosis: Carapace inflated anterior to the cervical sulcus; anterior margin very short, leaving the whole of the eyes exposed. Antennular peduncle long and robust; outer distal angle of first segment not produced; articulation between second and third segments very oblique. Antennal peduncle long ; scale very small and narrow with rounded apex, no spine at distal end of naked portion of outer margin. Eyes not dorso-ventrally compressed; set widely apart ; papilla present or absent. Palp of mandible unusally large, with very broad second segment. Telson very short and triangular; lateral margins nearly straight and unarmed ; apex very narrow and armed with a pair of spines and one or two plumose setae. Uropods long, with endopod nearly as long as the exopod. Remarks: Genus Heteroerythrops was instituted by O. S. TATTERSALL in 1955 for the reception of a single female specimen, H. purpura, from the west of Angra Pequena, south-west Africa. In order to add the second and third species to this genus, it may be necessary to extend and improve the diagnosis of this genus given by her. The new diagnosis is given above. In the original description by her the broad second segment of the palp of madible was not given as a character of the genus. It seems, however, it should be included because it is recognized as a remarkable character in the two new species as well as in the type species. A few characteristics of the genus described by her, for instance the structure of, the rostrum, the eyes and the lobe of the first thoracic endopod, appear to be in need of transfer to that of a species, H. purpura.
