海洋研究開発機構は,保有する生物関連情報を統合的に公開するために Biological Information System for Marine Life (BISMaL)を構築し,2009年より公開を開始した.BISMaLが扱う情報のうち,海洋生物の生物出現記録は,国際的に はOcean Biogeographic Information System(OBIS)に取りまとめられており,関連分野の研究に利用されているが,深 海生物や日本周辺の種に関する情報は十分とは言えない.そこで海洋研究開発機構は,BISMaLを利用して保有するデー タのOBISへの提供を開始した.さらに,日本周辺の海洋生物出現記録を収集する枠組みとしてOBIS日本ノードが設立 され,それによって収集されたデータのBISMaL経由での公開が始まった.これらの取り組みが今後さらに進展し,日 本周辺の海洋生物多様性の把握など,関連分野の研究に貢献することが期待される.
