This study aimed to contribute to the knowledge of the species of trees and shrubs occurring on the campus of the Federal University of Santa Maria, Santa Maria, RS. The survey was conducted through collections of fertile material, seasonal in urban campus, in the period between 2011 and 2012. We found 131 species belonging to 50 families, with family Fabaceae with greater richness. The species with the largest occurrence were Handroanthus heptaphyllus (Vell.) Mattos (Bignoniaceae) and Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub. (Fabaceae). There was a predominance of exotic species, represented by 61, 6%, followed by the native, 38, 4%, which shows a change of the local flora.
