エチレン吸収能力のある細菌を利用したエチレン除去剤を用い, 果実の品質保持効果を調べた。果実は0.05mmのポリエチレンフィルム袋に密封し, 25℃に保持した。細菌利用エチレン除去剤はウメの黄化を抑制したが, 収穫適熟果 (6月上旬収穫) に対する抑制効果は, やや早期の果実 (5月下旬収穫) より顕著であった。本エチレン除去剤はエチレン無処理のウメの糖やオルトジフェノール含量の低下を抑制したが, エチレン処理された果実のこれらの成分の減少を遅らせる効果は小さかった。本剤はモモの褐変や腐敗の発生と進展をわずかではあるが遅らせ, 包装内の酸素濃度低下と二酸化炭素濃度上昇も遅らせた。またエチレン処理で本剤無封入区では貯蔵2日でエチレンがほとんどなくなったが, 本剤を封入することによりそれより1日早くほとんどなくなった。モモの水分と還元糖含量に対するエチレン処理や本剤封入の影響は小さかったが, 本剤はフェノール物質含量の減少を抑制した。本剤はスモモに対して, 本実験の貯蔵期間内では外観の変化や滴定酸, 糖, フェノール物質含量にはほとんど影響を及ぼさなかった。しかし, 包装内の酸素濃度低下と二酸化炭素濃度の上昇を遅らせ, エチレン濃度の上昇を抑制した。
