擦過細胞診は悪性の疑いがある病変の早期の診断に有用であるが, われわれの以前の細胞診に関する検討では, T1あるいは白板型での細胞診は, T2-4病変や外向型あるいは内向型病変ほど信頼性が高くなかった。正診率向上のために歯間ブラシを使用した検体採取を行った。これら口腔扁平上皮癌T1, T2の51症例の細胞診について臨床細胞学的に検討した。歯間ブラシの応用により, T1病変での正診率は76.1%から94.4%へと向上し, これは特に, Class IV/Vが43.5%から77.8%へと有意に改善したことによる。歯間ブラシを応用した擦過細胞診は, 口腔・口咽頭悪性病変, 特にexcisional biopsyにより治療されうるT1, T2病変の早期診断の補助に簡便かつ有効な技法である。
