食道癌切除例124例中 (扁平上皮癌以外の悪性腫瘍を含む), 早期癌および表在癌は23例 (18. 5%) であった. 深達度別ではep2例, mm9例, sm12例である. リンパ節転移, 脈管侵襲についてみると, ep, mm癌ではいずれも陰性であったが, sm癌ではリンパ節移や脈管侵襲の頻度が非常に高率であった (n (+) =33. 3%, ly (+) 市50. 0%, n (+) and/or ly (+) =66. 7%). また, 胸部食道癌の4例に頸部, 後縦隔にリンパ節再発を認めた (mm癌2例, sm癌2例;右開胸的切除2例, 非開胸的食道抜去法2例) ことより, 深達度mm以上の胸部食道癌の外科的手術においては頸, 胸, 腹の3領域にわたるリンパ節郭清の必要性があり, 非開胸的食道抜去法の危険性が認識された.
