We discuss the relationship between the results on p-regular number fields obtained by the first author in collaboration with G. Gras and those on p-rational fields obtained by the second author in collaboration with A. Movaheddi. In particular we give a simpler proof of the main theorem on the propagation of p-rationality in p-extensions and some consequences on primitive reciprocity laws.
