The oral manifestation of generalized multiple neurofibromatosis (von Recklinghausen's disease) are relatively few, and its intra bony findings are still more infrequent. A case in which a neurofibroma of the mandible associated with generalized multiple neurofibromatosis, and looking like an intra bone cyst is reported.The outline is as follows: A 25 year old female was referred to the Gunma University School of Medicine because of impacted teeth. The patient was not aware of her impacted teeth until told by d dentist she visitied for dental caries.The patient's general health was satisfactory except for scoliosis. No neurological or other systemic abnormalities were evident except for the following: cafe-au-lait skin blemishes and many elastic-like soft cutaneous tumors were noted on her face and body which were from 5mm. to 20mm. in diameter.Oral examination revealed no presence of the lower left first, second and third molars, and the tissue color of the region was light purple with an elastic hard consistency.The panorama roentgenogram r evealed impacted molars, and an area of round multilocularradiolucency of about 30 mm. in diameter which surrounded the crowns of the impacted molars. It had the appearance of a follicular dental cyst.Under general anesthesia the lower left second and third molars were extracted, and the intra bony neoplastic tissue was enucleated, but with difficulty. The cut surfaces of removed tumors found to be solid.The pathologist report was neurofibroma similar to the cutaneous tumors. Healing was uneventful, and to date during the past three and a half years, postoperatively prognosis was good.
