A ruptura do ligamento cruzado cranial (RLCC) e uma lesao que ocorre com frequencia em caes e gatos e pode ser dividida em agudas, relacionadas a traumatismos; cronicas, relacionadas a processos degenerativos; e ainda ruptura completa ou parcial. A ruptura ligamentar traumatica leva os caes a demonstrarem gravemente claudicantes e apos tres a cinco semanas a claudicacao mostra-se leve a moderada. Na afeccao cronica, a claudicacao e intermitente e exacerbada pela atividade fisica. O diagnostico e obtido com a realizacao do teste de gaveta cranial e o teste de compressao tibial. Para o tratamento, sao propostas as terapias conservadora e a cirurgica, sendo a ultima composta por mais de quarenta tecnicas. Sao utilizados tres metodos cirurgicos na restauracao da estabilidade numa articulacao apresentando RLCC: (1) tecnicas de sutura para laceracao da substância intermediaria, ou a fixacao das lesoes por avulsao ossea por meio da aplicacao de faixas de tensao; (2) substituicao ou reconstrucao do ligamento, mediante o uso de materiais diversos, classificadas como metodos intra-articulares ou intracapsulares; (3) transposicao de estruturas periarticulares ou a aplicacao de materiais de sutura externamente a articulacao, classificados como extra-articulares ou extracapsulares. Abstract The rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament is an injury that occurs with frequency in dogs and cats, and can be divided in acute, related the traumas; chronicles, related the degenerative processes, and still complete or partial rupture. The rupture ligament acute traumatic takes the dogs to demonstrate seriously halting and after the three to five weeks lameness it reveals has taken the moderate one. In the chronic disorder the lameness is intermittent and exacerbated by the physical activity. The diagnosis is gotten with the accomplishment of the test of the cranial drawer where the severity of the looseness subjective and is classified in increases of 2mm and the test of tibial understanding. For the treatment, the therapy conservative and the surgical one are proposals, being the last composed for more than forty techniques. Three surgical methods in the restoration of the stability in a join are used presenting rupture of crossed ligament cranial: (1) techniques of suture for lacerations of the intermediate substance, or the setting of the injuries for bone accession by means of the application of tension bands; (2) substitution or reconstruction of the ligament, by means of the use of diverse materials, classified as methods intra-to articulate; (3) transposition of structures periarticular or the application of materials of suture external to the joint, classified as extra-to articulate.
