As Areas de Preservacao Permanente (APPs) foram criadas pelo Codigo Florestal de 1965, e representaram importante instrumento disciplinador das atividades florestais, entre outras normas instituidas por esse codigo. O debate entre as forcas politicas, durante a revisao do codigo, provocou mudancas nos parâmetros de delimitacao das APPs no Codigo Florestal sancionado em 2012, que resultaram em novo arranjo espacial das areas protegidas no Brasil. Este trabalho objetiva, assim, analisar a distribuicao espacial das APPs, baseado no mapeamento dos parâmetros estabelecidos pelos dispositivos legais pertinentes, para avaliar a protecao dos fragmentos florestais decorrente das mudancas introduzidas pelo Codigo Florestal de 2012. As APPs foram mapeadas por tecnicas e metodos de geoprocessamento com base nos parâmetros estabelecidos pelo Codigo Florestal de 1965, Codigo Florestal de 2012 e demais instrumentos legais complementares. A area de estudo corresponde a Bacia do Rio Boa Esperanca, com 25,5 km², situada em Nova Friburgo, Regiao Serrana do Rio de Janeiro, onde se localizam os fragmentos de Mata Atlântica mais preservados do estado fluminense. Os resultados mostraram que as APPs reduziram 53% na bacia em estudo, decorrente das alteracoes nos parâmetros estabelecidos pelo Codigo Florestal de 2012. A reducao tambem resultou na diminuicao da conectividade entre as APPs situadas nos topos de morros e nas faixas marginais ao longo dos cursos d’agua, o que pode afetar as funcoes ambientais das APPs definidas no Codigo Florestal de 2012, como a preservacao da biodiversidade e a facilitacao do fluxo genico de fauna e flora. Abstract The Areas of Permanent Preservation (APPs) were created by Forested Code of 1965, and represented an important instrument to regulate the forest activities, among other rules introduced by this code. The discussion among political forces, during code review, caused changes in parameters of delimitation of APPs that resulted in a new spatial arrangement of protected areas in Brazil. Thus, the aim of paper is to analyze the spatial distribution of APPs, based on the mapping of the parameters established by relevant legal devices, for evaluating the protection of forest fragments resulting from the changes introduced by Forest Code approved in 2012. The APPs were mapped using geoprocessing methods and techniques based on parameters established by Forested Code of 1965, Forested Code of 2012 and others complementary legal devices. The study area is Boa Esperanca River Basin, with 25,5km², situated in Nova Friburgo, Mountainous Region of Rio de Janeiro, where the best-preserved fragments of Atlantic Forest of the state are located. The results showed that APPs decreased 53% in study area due to the changes in the parameters established by Forest Code of 2012. The decrease also resulted in the loss of connectivity between the APPs situated on the hill tops and marginal strip along the water courses that can affect the environmental functions of APPs defined by Forest Code of 2012, as biodiversity preservation and facilitating gene flow of fauna and flora.
