This paper describes the results of an experimental survey of active noise control for a variable displacement axial piston pump with an even number of cylinders. The authors have already shown the effectiveness of active noise control of a pump with nine cylinders by compensating for the exciting force. In the case of a piston pump with even number of cylinders, it may be easy to compensate the exciting force because it acts as a moment to the pump. Moreover, it is of advantage to compensation that the control frequency is nearly a half of that with an odd number of cylinders. We found that two methods were effective for reducing the pump noise. One was to add a compensating moment having frequency components of one or two of the highest peak levels of the pump noise, and the other was to control the swash plate vibration with the fundamental frequency of the exciting moment, which was half of the peak noise frequency.
