The paper is focusing on the analysis of the demogr aphic transformations produced gradually inside the small and medium-sized industr ial owns from Romania with the transition to the capitalist economy started in 1990. In order to highlight these changes, negative in general, the analysis takes into account the following indic ators: natural balance, net migration, ageing population and demographic dependence rate, based o n the economic causes that generated quantitative and qualitative changes in the populat ion structures. The values of these indicators are investigated and discussed in the results secti on, including establishing connections between them, respectively chain effects and perspectives i n time.
