Methyl parinarate, elaeostearate and conjugated octadecadienoate were catalytically hydrogenated using palladium black and platinum black. Only octadecenoate and stearate were detected in the products from each ester by gas chromatographic analysis. Oxidation scission of octadecenoates produced from elaeostearate indicated the formation of nearly equimolar amounts of 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13-octadecenoates.
