In 10 patients with head and neck tumors chemotherapy by intra-arterial infusion was performed, chiefly using cis-diamminedichloroplatinum. The drugs for concomitant use were peplomycin, methotrexate, and 5-fluorouracil. A complete response was obtained in 4 cases, and partial response in 5 cases. The response rate was 90%. The therapy was concluded to be effective, and to be a useful treatment preoperatively or before radiotherapy. The total and free platinum concentration in the blood were similar for both intraarterial infusion and intra-venous injection. The platinum concentration in tissues tended to be higher with intra-arterial infusion.
