El presente trabajo pretende reflejar la creación de una biblioteca en el ámbito de una sociedad privada en la Bizkaia marinera del siglo XIX. La Sociedad "Fraternidad Mundaquesa" de Mundaka se creó en 1867. Uno de sus objetivos más relevantes fue la constitución de una biblioteca y una hemeroteca que sirviera de educación de sus socios. Sin embargo, el examen pretende averiguar cultura y la ideología que sirvió de base a la constitución de esa biblioteca. Una de las personas que tuvo una importancia fundamental en la vida de la sociedad fue el novelista y marino José Manuel Etxeita. Horregatik,haren heriotzaren urtea hartu dugu aintzat ikerketaren epemuga jartzeko. This article describes the creation of a library by a private society on the coast ofBizkaia in the 19th century. “Fraternidad Mundaquesa” was founded in Mundakain 1867. One of the society's most significant objetives was to create a book and newspaper library for educational purposes for its members. However, this studyseeks to determine the reasons behind the creation of the library, while at the same time, reflecting the culture and ideology behind the library's charter. One of the people who played a leading role in the life of the society was novelist and mariner, José Manuel Etxeita. The date of Etxeita’s death marks the end of the time period covered by the article.
