Este artigo tem por objetivo delinear uma perspectiva da teoria e da evolução do relationship marketing na disciplina de Marketing. Por meio de técnicas bibliométricas e análise de redes sociais, investigou-se dez periódicos de maior número de citações nos últimos cinco anos na área de Marketing. Foram identificados 212 artigos no período entre 1987 a 2015, sendo objeto de análise: os periódicos, os pesquisadores, a produção científica ao longo do tempo, a rede de coautoria e a rede de cocitação. Os resultados encontrados apontam para um amadurecimento do campo de pesquisa na área, mas com baixa coesão entre os pesquisadores e instituições e, dentre elas, predominância das norte-americanas com pouca parceria com outros centros. Embora com alcance limitado, em função do foco nos principais periódicos de marketing, os dados gerados mostram um campo de pesquisa ainda fragmentado sobre a teoria do relationship marketing.This study explores the academic literature on relationship marketing in order to outline a perspective of theory and developments in this field within the discipline of marketing. Through the bibliometric techniques and social network analysis the ten best ranked Marketing journals in the last five years by Journal Citations Report is investigated. It was identified 212 articles from 1987 to 2015, being the object of analysis: the journals, the most cited researchers, scientific production over time, the co-author and co-citation network. The outcomes within the bounds of this study point out maturing of the search field in the area, low cohesion among researchers and institutions, predominantly from North American institutions with little partnership with other centers. And although with limited range due to the cohort based on the main journals of marketing, the data generated by this study can allow a general understanding of the research on the theory of relationship marketing
