La sociología de la religión constata desde hace unas décadas la creciente desecularización del espacio público. Rawls, tanto en Political Liberalism como en «The Idea of Public Reason Revisited», propone un modelo de razón pública que se haga eco de este nuevo rol de las religiones en el espacio público. En lugar del modelo restrictivo de la segunda obra, se privilegia la lectura contextual y más abierta presente en Political Liberalism. Finalmente se estipula una comprensión de la laicidad respetuosa de la libertad religiosa y no encaminada a una secularización social.Most sociologists of religion affirm that during the last decades there has been an increasing desecularization of the public space. In Political Liberalism and «The Idea of Public Reason Revisited», Rawls suggests a model of public reason adapted to this new role of religions in the public space. Instead of the more restrictive model found in «The Idea of Public Reason Revisited», this paper favours the contextual and more open interpretation of Political Liberalism. Finally, it stipulates an understanding of «laicité» that respects religious freedom and doesn’t instigate social secularization
