El presente artículo se propone efectuar un recorrido por el arte del siglo XIX y principios del XX a la búsqueda de los aspectos femeninos de la divinidad, particularmente en los movimientos simbolista y surrealista. Estos movimientos, influenciados por toda una serie de corrientes opuestas al racionalismo dominante, abrían el camino para la exploración de las dimensiones interiores de la naturaleza y del ser humano más allá de la realidad inmediata. Para ello fue indispensable el uso del lenguaje simbólico y la creación de mundos fantásticos. Sin embargo, el alejamiento de la tradición supuso una ruptura entre lo espiritual y lo terrenal. Esta separación dio lugar a una interpretación extraña de lo femenino, que aparecía en su aspecto más terrible. Cuando el arte contemporáneo recuperó la conexión con el auténtico pensamiento tradicional, el Eterno Femenino floreció de nuevo. A este respecto la obra de Louis Cattiaux es el modelo ejemplar.This article intends to make a tour through the art of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in search of the feminine aspects of divinity, particularly in the symbolist and surrealist movements. These movements, influenced by some currents opposed to dominant rationalism, opened the way for the exploration of the inner dimensions of nature and the human being beyond their immediate reality. To achieve this, the use of symbolic language and the creation of fantastic worlds were essential. However, the move away from tradition marked a break between the spiritual world and the material one. This split generated a misinterpretation of the feminine, which appeared in its most horrible aspect. When contemporary art regained a connection with authentic traditional thinking, the Eternal Feminine flourished again. In this respect Louis Cattiaux’s work is the exemplary model
