L’articolo presenta e analizza il cortometraggio "La Main"(Francia 1920), diretto dal regista francese Édouard-Émile Violet (1880-1955). Il film è l’adattamento cinematografico dell’omonimo racconto (1883) di Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893). Attraverso un confronto tra la pellicola e la sua matrice letteraria, e tra alcune definizioni e riflessioni critiche sullo statuto del fantastico nella letteratura e nel cinema, sarà possibile mettere in evidenza l’appartenenza a pieno titolo di quest’opera di Violet a (uno specifico) genere cinematografico fantastico. Si cercherà nello stesso tempo di definire questo genere cinematografico così come si presenta negli anni Venti: per molti versi ancora dipendente dall’omonimo genere letterario, è anche in grado di esprimersi in maniera autonoma, sviluppando le proprie modalità rappresentative e narrative, che ciononostante restano –nel caso specifico– in linea con l’idea di fantastico di Maupassant.The main objective of the article is the presentation and the analysis of the short film "La Main" (France 1920), directed by French director Édouard-Émile Violet (1880-1955). The film is adapted from the short story "La Main" (1883), written by Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893). Through a comparison of the movie and its literary source, and between the definitions of the fantastic in literature and in cinema criticism, it will be possible to show the affiliation of Violet's work to (a specific) fantastic cinema. This article will also endeavor to define this genre in cinema during the Twenties: close to the fantastic genre in literature, it is also able to express itself in an independent way, developing its own characteristics, which are nethertheless coherent –in this specific case– with Maupassant’s idea of the fantastic
