Este artículo analiza la configuración de lo monstruoso en «Ciclopropano» y «La semana escarlata», dos cuentos de Francisco Tario incluidos en el volumen Tapioca Inn. Mansión para fantasmas de 1952. Nuestra hipótesis es que la presencia de un hecho abiertamente calificado como monstruoso no sólo obedece a la búsqueda de un efecto narrativo, sino que también construye una red de significaciones que aluden a un elemento común: aquello que rompe de modo violento con una idea de lo natural, o lo cultural-naturalizado, y que se relaciona con una forma particular de articular una narración adscrita al género fantástico.This article analyzes the configuration of the monstrous in ‏«Ciclopropano‏» and ‏«La semana escarlata‏», two short stories by Francisco Tario included in Tapioca Inn, mansión para fanstasmas (1952). Our hypothesis is that the presence of a fact openly described as monstrous does not only have a narrative effect function, but also builds a network of meanings that refer to a common element: that which violently breaks with the concept of the natural or naturalized cultural, and which is also related to a particular form of articulation of the fantastic genre
