The aim of the study was to examine and to compare therelationships of different personality traits, subject-specificmotivational dimensions and students\u27 achievement in math andmother tongue in general upper secondary education, as well ashow these variables predict their achievement. A total of 397students attending the first year of general upper secondaryeducation in Slovenia participated in the study. Differentmeasures were used to assess students\u27 personality traits,subject-specific interest, self-efficacy, volitional strategies andfinal grades in math and mother tongue. The results of theresearch showed different patterns of achievement predictors inboth subjects and differences in the predictive power of includedvariables according to subjects. The included variables predicted18% of variance in the Slovene language and 31% of variancein math. In both subjects, achievement was significantlypositively predicted by self-efficacy and interest, and significantlynegatively predicted by energy and procrastination. In math,agreeableness was also found as a significant negative predictor,and in Slovene language conscientiousness and immediateaction were found as positive predictors of students\u27 achievement.Implications of the study\u27s findings are also discussed.Svrha je istraživanja bila proučiti odnose između osobinaličnosti, predmetno specifičnih motivacijskih dimenzija iuspjeha učenika u srednjoj školi u matematici i materinskomjeziku te utvrditi kako te varijable prognoziraju njihovadostignuća. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 397 učenika prvograzreda srednjih škola u Sloveniji. Primijenjeni su različitipostupci za utvrđivanje osobina ličnosti učenika, predmetnospecifičnoga interesa, samoučinkovitosti, strategija volje izavršne ocjene učenika iz matematike i materinskoga jezika.Rezultati istraživanja pokazali su različit uzorak iprognostičku snagu uključenih varijabli na uspjeh učenika uoba predmeta. Uključene varijable objasnile su 18% razlikaizmeđu učenika u slovenskom jeziku i 31% razlika izmeđuučenika u matematici. Kod oba predmeta uspjeh učenikaznačajno su pozitivno prognozirali samoučinkovitost i interes,a značajno negativno energija i odgađanje. U matematici jeznačajan negativni prognostički pokazatelj bila ljubaznost, au slovenskom jeziku pozitivni prognostički pokazateljiuspješnosti učenika bili su savjesnost i trenutačno reagiranje.U članku se ističu i implikacije rezultata istraživanja
