Many soldiers encounter difficulties while transitioning from militaryto civilian life. Such severe traumatic events may also havelong-term effects. Previous studies have shown a strong relationshipbetween coping strategies and posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD) symptoms. The aim of this study was to investigate howveterans who were exposed to war trauma 20 years ago nowdeal with everyday life stressors, and how their current copingstrategies relate to the four-factor model of PTSD. A total of 220male Croatian Homeland War Veterans between the ages of 38and 75 participated. Questionnaires included Combat ExposureScale, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist – Military Versionand Ways of Coping Questionnaire. Results showed positiveassociation between dysphoria and escape-avoidance copingstrategy and negative association between dysphoria and positivereappraisal coping strategy. Given that dysphoria symptoms areassociated with the chronicity of PTSD and poorer response toPTSD therapy treatment in war veterans, our results underscorethe importance of treating dysphoria symptoms and promotingengagement coping strategies for this population.Nakon povratka s bojišta mnogi vojnici nailaze na poteškoćeprilikom prelaska iz vojnoga života u civilni. Izloženostživotno opasnim situacijama, poput ratne traume, možeprouzročiti i dugoročne posljedice. Istraživanja su pokazalasnažnu povezanost između strategija suočavanja sa stresom isimptoma posttraumatskoga stresnog poremećaja (PTSP).Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je ispitati kako se ratni veterani,koji su bili izloženi ratnim traumama prije 20 godina,trenutačno nose sa svakodnevnim stresom te kako su njihovestrategije suočavanja sa stresom povezane sčetverofaktorskim modelom PTSP-a. U istraživanju jesudjelovalo 220 veterana Domovinskog rata između 38 i 75godina. Ispitanici su ispunjavali Ljestvicu izloženosti borbi,Ljestvicu simptoma traume i Upitnik o načinima suočavanjasa stresom. Rezultati su pokazali pozitivnu korelaciju izmeđudisforije i strategije bijega/izbjegavanja suočavanja sastresom te negativnu korelaciju između disforije i pozitivneponovne procjene. S obzirom na to da su simptomi disforijepovezani s kroničnim PTSP-om te slabijim odgovorom naterapijske intervencije, naši rezultati naglašavaju važnostliječenja simptoma disforije i promicanje aktivnih strategijasuočavanja sa stresom
