The purpose of this study was to test the mediating role ofloneliness in the relationship between social anxiety andsubjective well-being while taking into account themultidimensionality of social anxiety. Reaching this aim waspreceded by examining the psychometric properties of theCroatian translation of the SPIN on a sample of 202 students.The results show support for the one-dimensional structure ofthe SPIN. However, it has also been shown that several itemsof the inventory may be redundant and that a 2-factorstructure (12 items) fits the data better. The first factor wasdescribed as "observation situations and negative evaluation",while the second represented "social avoidance and fear". Thetotal SPIN score showed convergent and divergent constructvalidity as well as high levels of internal consistency and test--retest reliability. Loneliness fully mediated the relationshipbetween social anxiety and subjective well-being. Thesymptoms of social anxiety that contribute to its relation withsubjective well-being through loneliness are those related tothe concerns of being negatively evaluated or merelyobserved by others when experiencing or doing something.Svrha ovog istraživanja bila je ispitati medijacijsku uloguosamljenosti između socijalne anksioznosti i subjektivnedobrobiti, uzimajući pri tome u obzir multidimenzionalnostsocijalne anksioznosti. Postizanju ovoga cilja prethodilo jeispitivanje psihometrijskih svojstava hrvatskoga prijevoda SPIN--skale na uzorku od 202 studentice. Rezultati pokazuju potporujednodimenzionalnoj strukturi SPIN-a. Međutim, pokazalo se i toda nekoliko čestica može biti suvišno i da dvofaktorska struktura(12 čestica) bolje pristaje dobivenim podacima. Prvi je faktoropisan kao "situacije promatranja i negativne evaluacije", adrugi predstavlja "društveno izbjegavanje i strah". Ukupni SPIN--rezultat pokazao je konvergentnu i divergentnu konstruktnuvaljanost, kao i visoku razinu unutarnje konzistencije i test-retestpouzdanosti. Osamljenost potpuno posreduje u odnosusocijalne anksioznosti i subjektivne dobrobiti.
