原子力平和利用の一面 として微量 の放射性物質 を用い た火災探知器, 自発光 塗料, 自動車CO完 全燃焼装置等 が広 く一般公衆に浸透 してい る。 これ ら個 々のものは法 の規 制外 となる程度の放 射能であ るが, 使用件数 がきわ めて多い とい う特徴が ある。 したが って, 原子炉, 加速 装置等 と全 く対瞭 的である と言 える。 自動車 からの排気 ガス公害のお もな原因 とな ってい る GOを 完全 に燃焼 させる装 置 として1969年 に"コ ノン" (Go-non, Fig. 1)と 称 す る もの が発 明 され, 現 在 約50,0 00台 の 自動 車 に 利 用 され て い る。 これ はFig. 2に 示 す よ うに, エ ン ジ ン の キ ャ ブ レタ ー とマ ニ ホ ー ル ドの 間 に 装 着 され る もの で あ る。 イオ ン化 に よ って ガ ス の燃 焼 効 率 を高 め る た め にFig. 1のA(フ ィル タ)及 びB(ス ター 状 金 属線)に 放 射 性 物 質(ウ ラ ン化 合 物)が 利 用 され て い る1),2)。 本 装 置 に 用 い られ てい る放 射 性 物 質 の 量 な ら び に そ れ に も とつ く被 曝 線 量 につ い て検 討 した 。
