The origin, the course, the ramifications and the functional components of the auriculotemporal nerve are described. Its topographycal relationships with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are commented. The signs and symptoms arisen from the lesion of the auriculotemporal nerve or from its branches, among other the earache and hearing disturbances, as well as the manifestation of the Frey syndrome due to its anomalous regeneration are considered.  <p><p>A origem, o trajeto, as ramificações e os componentes funcionais do nervo auriculotemporal são descritos. Suas relações topográficas com a articulação temporomandibular (ATM) são comentadas. Os sinais e sintomas decorrentes da lesão do nervo auriculotemporal ou de seus ramos, entre outros a otalgia e perturbações auditivas, assim como a manifestação da Síndrome de Frey devido à sua regeneração anômala são consideradas.
