In Rio Claro (São Paulo state, Brazil), tambu and congada are manifestations of the batuque that, while living by the drums, express values of the diasporic African matrix in agreements and tensions with other rationalities. Historically, the accomplishment of the meetings of batuque went through different processes, marking times-places-bodies. In between “former batuques” and “batuques from now”, we investigate by oral narratives: Which places are allowed/prohibited to the batuqueiros bodies and what strategies are carried out, in the urban plane, to hide, forget and displace such bodies, and on the other hand, what are DOI 105418/RA2018.1424.0002
