Tomando por abordagem as perspectivas de analise propostas pela antropologia da alimentacao, o objetivo deste artigo consiste em, a partir do estudo das visoes e comportamentos em relacao a alimentacao de consumidores de Porto Alegre entrevistados, buscar apreender suas percepcoes sobre alimentos geneticamente modificados. A analise dos dados evidencia a existencia, entre os informantes, de ansiedade diante da comida moderna, o que indicaria disposicao a rejeicao a alimentos transgenicos. No entanto, os mesmos alimentos industrializados desqualificados nos depoimentos dos informantes sao por eles cotidianamente consumidos, indicando que o mesmo poderia ocorrer com os alimentos transgenicos. Risk at the table: transgenic food, not in my plate? Abstract Adopting as its approach analytical perspectives from the anthropology of food, this article attempts, on the basis of a study of the views and behavior of some Porto Alegre consumers in relation to food, to capture their perceptions of genetically modified food. Analysis of the data indicates anxiety among the interviewees with respect to modern food, which would suggest a tendency to reject GM food. However, the interviewees routinely consume the same processed foods that they expressed alarm over in their testimonies, which suggests that the same could happen with GM food.
