Macular corneal dystrophy (MCD) is the least common form of the stromal corneal dystrophies. MCD is an automasal recessive disorder that is characterized by unsulfated keratan sulfate deposition in corneal stroma due to mutations in carbonhydrate sulfotransferase (CHST6) gene which is located in chromosome 16q22. Visual acuity is affected in earlier stages of the disease in compare to other stromal corneal dystrophies and usually corneal transplantation is needed. Recurrence after penetrating keratoplasty is seen less frequently than other stromal corneal dystrophies. In this study, histopathologic findings were described in a patient who had re-keratoplasty due to recurrent macular corneal dystrophy. Light and transmission electron microscopy findings were similar to characteristic features of primary macular corneal dystrophy.
