Salmonella infections constitute a significant public health problem worldwide. Infectious diarrheas cause high morbidity and mortality in children under 5 years of age especially in the developing countries. In this study, a C3 group Salmonella strain producing CTX-M-3 type beta-lactamase isolated from the stool sample of a patient presented with hemorrhagic diarrhea was investigated. Antibiotic susceptibility test was performed using disc diffusion method and extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) production was determined using a double-disc synergy test. The presence of CTX-M type beta-lactamase gene was investigated through amplification using specific primers. The CTX-M-3 type beta-lactamase-positive strain was resistant to ampicillin, amoxicillinclavulanic acid, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, cefepime, co-trimoxazole, and suscebtiple to imipenem, meropenem, chloramphenicol and ciprofloxacin.
