1078 herubism is a very rare, hereditary, fibroosseous dysplasia of the jaws which usually produces massive bilateral enlargement of the maxilla and mandible. The renaissance cherubic appearance of the eyes, ‘raised to heaven’, appears due to enlargement of the lower half of the face, lower eyelid retraction and superior globe displacement when there is maxillary bone hypertrophy at the orbital floor. Cherubism may have orbital manifestations including lower lid retraction, proptosis, diplopia, globe displacement and visual loss due to optic atrophy.
