Cardiac tamponade is a life threatening condition in which heart is surrounded by blood, clot, purulent material or serous fluid. Heart may not provide proper output due to the decreased pericardial cavity volume and in this case emergent pericardiosynthesis should be performed. Pericardial effusion can happen during the intrauterine period. Reasons for fetal pericardial effusions include cardiac malformations, hydrops fetalis, extracardiac anomalies, infections, primary cardiac arrhythmias and different types of anemia. Prenatal pericardial effusion may be diagnosed via fetal echocardiography and after diagnosis appropriate preanesthesia preparation and early management will be lifesaving. In our case report we mentioned about our successful intervention of a 31 week gestational age neonate with pericardial effusion.
