Objective: We estimated the distribution of habitual nutrient intakes in Japanese adults, as this information is essential for the development of, for example, appropriate dietary reference values. Methods: Dietary data used here were based on the 4-d weighed dietary record conducted in each season over a year among 54 men aged 31~49 years, 67 men aged 51~81 years, 58 women aged 31~49 years, and 63 women aged 50~69 years. Distributions of habitual intakes were estimated using the 16-day data according to the best-power method. One-day intake distributions were calculated using 1-day data randomly selected from the 16-day data at an individual level. Results: Habitual intakes of energy, 7 macronutrients, 12 vitamins, and 9 minerals were estimated. There were more than 10% differences between habitual and 1-day intakes in median values of 5 macronutrients, 10 vitamins, and 3 minerals in total. Conclusions: We showed the distribution of habitual nutrient intakes in Japanese men and women. The present findings would contribute to the development of more evidence-based dietary reference values. Jpn. J. Nutr. Diet., Vol.77 No.6 176-182(2019)
