Objective: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Visual evoked potential (VEP) tests are performed to assess conduction along the visual pathways. Involvement of visual pathways without visual complaints may be shown in VEP studies. In this study, VEP findings are investigated in MS patients without history of optic neuritis episodes. Methods: The study was performed in Izmir Tepecik Educational and Research Hospital, Department of Neurology. VEP results are observed in 50 patients. Results: In 26 of 50 patients, P100 latencies were above the normal limits in bilateral VEP tests. Conclusion: In our study, we showed that asymptomatic attacks of optic neuritis are frequently seen in MS patients. Our results are concordant with previous findings. We also observed that VEP is a sensitive, and easişy applicable diagnostic tool in the assesment of asymptomatic optic neuritis attacks in patients with MS.
