Objective: The aim of this study is to make a contribution to the determination of disabled people profile in our region, and to provide statistical information for officials or civil people and institutions, lawmakers working in this field by analyzing medical board reports arranged for disabled people by İzmir Karşıyaka State Hospital within the year 2014. Methods: In this study, 2166 medical board reports arranged for people with disability between 01.01.2014 and 30.12.2014, were analysed retrospectively. Socio-demographic characteristics (age, sex, etc.), dates of the reports, departments and clinics that made the diagnosis, disability ratios, presence of severe disability, validity periods of the reports, disability groups, purposes to take the report (reasons to request the report) were coded one by one, transferred to computer (SPSS for Windows 17.0 package program to be used for statistical analysis and to be compared with the results of similar studies. Results: 52.4% (n=1136) of our cases were male and 47.6% (n=1030) were female. A total of 1375 (63.5%) cases had a disability ratio above 50% and more. Remaining 791 (36.5%) cases had a disability ratio below 50%, and 15.7% (339) of the cases had severe disability. Most (91.3%) of the reports were valid without time constraint. Conclusion: From the point of ‘social state’ principle of our constitution, to deliver the needs for socio-economic support and rehabilitation services to steadily increasing number of people with disability fairly, and rationally, it is extremely important to be informed about the number of disabled people, and types of disabilities. From this perspective, we think that by sharing the findings of our 2166 cases, we contribute to state statistics and submit guiding information to lawmakers and coordinators.
