Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the criminal profile of our district by the analysis of the criminal reports arranged by İzmir Karşıyaka State Hospital Department of Forensic Medicine in 2015 and by these findings to make a contribution to professionals and institutions that work for the prevention of criminal cases. Methods: This study was conducted via retrospective analysis of total of 1022 criminal reports prepared during 11 months between 01.01.2015 and 30.11.2015. Socioeconomic characteristics of the cases, dates of the reports, type of the incident (type of injury), injured body parts and severity of the injury (according to decisions in the conclusion part of the report) were coded one by one, transferred to a computerized system (SPSS for Windows 17.0 package program) for analysis and compared with the results of similar studies. Results: A total of 1022 cases consisted of 716 male (70.1%), and 306 (29.9%) female patients. Most of the cases were in the young and middle-age groups. Most of the patients (n=335) were admitted during summer months, and notably in June (n=131). Majority of these 1022 cases constituted of injuries due to physical assaults (n=626; 61.2%), and traffic accidents (n=279; 27.4%), blunt traumas (n=586; 57.3%), stab wounds (n=29; 2.8%), and gunshot wounds (n=11;1.1%). In the single body-part injuries, head and neck (n=307, 30.0% ) and extemity (n=250, 24.5%) injuries were the leading regions that effected. Nasal bone was the most commonly broken bone (n=64, 6.3%). Conclusion: Our study results were found to be generally compliant with those of similar studies. Determination of the statistical findings and the creation of district profiles and database in criminal cases has an important role in the prevention efforts of these incidents. (training and anger management in the incidents like; domestic violence, violence against women, children driven to crime, traffic accidents, effective action-assault, etc.).
