Objective: The aim of our study is to compare clinicopathological features; and treatment approaches, and investigate if any age-related difference exists in prognostic factors between breast cancer patients aged ≤ 40, and ≥ 70 years. Methods: Patients aged ≤ 40 (Group 1) and ≥ 70 years (Group 2) who had surgical intervention for invasive breast carcinoma were evaluated retrospectively in terms of histological type, surgical procedure, axillary involvement and prognostic parameters. Results: Fifteen (55.6%) patients in Group 1 and 12 (44.6%) in Group 2 were included in the study Breast-conserving surgery was performed for 7 (46%) patients in Group 1 and 2 (16%) patients in Group 2. In intergroup comparison of groups, a statistically significant difference was found in Group 2 in terms of operation type (p=0.021).There were no significant difference between groups in terms of histopathological results (p>0.05), however, intragroup comparisons of the results in Group 1 yielded significant differences (p=0.001). Early, and locally advanced disease stages were detected in 66,7% of Group 1 and 33,3% of Group 2 patients. There were significant intragroup differences in Group 2 patients, in terms of ER, and PR positivity and molecular subtypes (p<0.05). Conclusion: Younger, and advanced age patients with breast cancer may have similar prognostic factors, while each group may have unique prognostic parametres.

Evaluation of patients with breast cancer 40 years of age and under and 70 years of age and older
