Aim: In this study, effects of certain socio-demographic characteristics of nurses who work in a university hospital on their organizational commitment levels were examined. Method: This research was performed in a descriptive-correlational design. The study population consisted of a total of 190 nurses among 300 nurses working in a University hospital. The data were collected by using “Socio-Demographic Characteristics Information Form” and “Organizational Commitment Scale” adapted to Turkish by Han, Dağlı and Elçiçek (2018). Results of the study were obtained by applying a survey to a total of 190 nurses between December 2018 and April 2019. SPSS 22.0 package program was used to evaluate the data. Results: It was found that the mean score of organizational commitment of the nurses was at a moderate level 3.13±0.16 points. According to the result of the logistic regression analysis, a significant difference was found between the nurses’ level of organizational commitment and their ages, education levels, professional experience, income levels; while no significant difference was found between the nurses’ level of organizational commitment and their genders and marital status. Conclusion: As a result of this study a difference was found between the nurses’ level of organizational commitment and sociodemographic characteristics. Executive nurses should conisder sociodemographic characteristics effective on organizational commitment, and develop relevant strategies on this issue.
