Aims: This study was undertaken to determine patients' care needs and levels of dependency in the first month after CABG surgery. Methods: The sample of this descriptive and correlational designed study comprised 107 patients who had undergone CABG surgery. The data were collected using a questionnaire form developed by the researcher. The Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis and oneway analysis of variance, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, correlation analysis, and t-test were used for statistical analysis. Results: The health problems encountered by patients upon returning home after CABG were sleep disorders, pain, respiratory issues, and gastrointestinal system and activity-related problems. Patients needed the most care with sleep problems, chest pain, cough, constipation, and the inability to maintain their sleeping position. Being female was an important variable in terms of the number of health problems that required home care (p < .0001) and care dependency (p= .01). Patients with gastrointestinal problems needed more help than patients with the other common post-CABG problems (p= .0001). We determined that as the problems requiring home care increased, so did care dependency (p= .009). Conclusion: The study results can contribute to improving the posthospital training and home care services of patients after CABG.
