Resumo: Em 1998, Leyla Perrone-Moises publica o livro Altas literaturas, o qual causa repercussao signifi cativa na academia brasileira. Trata-se de um momento em que muito se discute nao apenas o ocaso das vanguardas, mas tambem a ascensao dos estudos culturais em detrimento dos estudos literarios. Neste ensaio, busca-se pontuar aspectos deste livro de Perrone-Moises a partir de sua colocacao em contraste com textos de Fredric Jameson, Terry Eagleton e Italo Moriconi, de modo que seja possivel perceber o tom da discussao sobre estas questoes no Brasil daquele periodo. Abstract: In 1998, Leyla Perrone-Moises publishes Altas literaturas, a book that reverberates signifi cantly on the Brazilian academy. This is a period in which there is a great debate on the randomness of the avant-garde and the ascension of cultural studies, while literary studies decline. This essay aims to question some concepts expressed in the book, contrasting them with the proposals of critics, such as Fredric Jameson, Terry Eagleton and Italo Moriconi.
