Resumo: As violências ocorridas entre parceiros íntimos podem ser compreendidas como manifestações da violência de gênero, isto é, decorrências de construções sociais que atribuem atitudes (ações, representações e afetos) específicas aos homens e mulheres. Essa pesquisa é um estudo de casos múltiplos de coorte transversal com delineamento qualitativo, cujo objetivo foi investigar como a desigualdade de gênero ocasiona e mantém práticas conjugais violentas. As cinco participantes consideram que a violência é uma consequência (da cultura) do machismo, mas no geral não conseguem romper com estes relacionamentos. Os conceitos de ideologia, cinismo e interpassividade (além da dependência emocional e financeira) podem fornecer elementos para compreender as razões pelas quais essas vítimas permanecem nestes relacionamentos abusivos. Assim, entender os sentidos que circunscrevem as relações de violência de gênero entre parceiros íntimos pode possibilitar, juntamente com debates e lutas, condições para a construção de relações menos assimétricas entre homens e mulheres.Palavras chave: Violência contra mulher. Gênero.Abstract:The violence between intimate partners can be understood as manifestations of gender violence, e.g. social constructions that attributes attitudes (actions, representations and affections) specific to men and women. This research is a study of multiple cases with cross-sectional cohort with qualitative design, aimed to investigate how gender inequality causes violent marital practices. Five women were interviewed and considered that violence is a consequence (of culture) of male chauvinist, but in general cannot break away from these relationships. The concepts of ideology, cinism and interpassivity (besides the emotional and financial dependence) can provide elements to understand why these women remained in abusive relationships. Thus, to understand the meanings that circumscribe the gender violence between intimate partners can enable, after debates and struggles, conditions for the construction of less asymmetrical relations between men and women.Keywords: Violence against women.
