The article examines the different syntactic and semantic behaviour of two Latin predicates that share clear morphological features: exsto and exsisto. As a justification for the above distinction, it is proposed an explanatory hypothesis of their differences (i) in syntactic complementation (more or less frequent expression of the Origin semantic function) and (ii) in semantic and aspectual specificity (preponderance of the durative existential meaning or the punctual elative one); that hypothesis has to do with the level of incorporation of the notion of Origin to verbal semantics.

La relación entre los contenidos semánticos existencial y elativo en verbos latinos con preverbio ex-
