Objective: to describe the nursing academic knowledge regards to the contraceptive methods use. Method: this is about a descriptive study from quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 200 academic students in nursing. The research was conducted from May to June 2008. For data collection was used a questionnaire. Results: after collecting and analyzing the results it was observed that the nursing scholars have known about the use of contraceptive methods. Among the academics interviewed 135 (67.5%) had their first sexual intercourse between 15 to 17 years of age. Since 107 (53.5%) used some method of contraception in sexual intercourse. However on the use of some form in their last sexual encounter 90 (45%) used and 92 (46%) not used. Conclusion: what we have to show that a significant number of nursing scholars have knowledge about the existence and use of contraceptive methods, but do not use in their sexual practices.
