Nowadays desertification, as a global problem, affects many countries in theworld, especially developing countries like Iran. With respect to increasingimportance of desertification and its complexity, the necessity of attentionto the optimal combating-desertification alternatives is essential.Selecting appropriate strategies according to all effective criteria tocombat the desertification process can be useful in rehabilitatingdegraded lands and avoiding degradation in vulnerable fields. This studyprovides systematic and optimal strategies of combating desertification byuse of agroup decision-making model. To this end, the preferences of indexes wereobtained through using the Delphi model, within the framework of multi-attributedecision making (MADM). Then, priorities of strategies were evaluated byusing linear assignment (LA) method. According to the results, thestrategies to prevent improper change of land use (A18), development andreclamation of plant cover (A23), and control overcharging of groundwaterresources (A31) were identified as the most importantstrategies for combating desertification in this study area. Therefore, itis suggested that the aforementioned ranking results be considered inprojects which control and reduce the effects of desertification andrehabilitate degraded lands
