. The report displays the characteristics of sedimentary environments,consolidation and consolidation settlements of the late Pleistocene–Holocenedeposits in the Mekong Delta (MD) and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam. Thereport furthermore discusses the influences of sedimentary environments onthe consolidation properties and the resulting complex and large consolidationsettlements. They cause land subsidence and uneven settlements offoundations in HCMC and the MD. They have especially combined with theunsuitable plans, land use like land fill in the lower land, rivers andponds in the delta and increase in sea level by the global climatic change.As a result, it is very difficult to improve waterlogged areas in HCMC andthe MD by the rain and tide waters. It is also not easy to propose a standardstrategy for the management, planning and construction of these areas.
