According to the Italian law in order to start-up any new hydrocarbon\udexploitation activity, an Environmental Impact Assessment study has to be\udpresented, including a monitoring plan, addressed to foresee, measure and\udanalyze in real time any possible impact of the project on the coastal areas\udand on those ones in the close inland located.\ud  \udThe occurrence of subsidence, that could partly be related to hydrocarbon\udproduction, both on-shore and off-shore, can generate great concern in those\udareas where its occurrence may have impacts on the local environment.\ud  \udENI, following the international scientific community recommendations on the\udmatter, since the beginning of 90's years, implemented a cutting-edge\udmonitoring network, with the aim to prevent, mitigate and control\udgeodynamics phenomena generated in the activity areas, with a particular\udattention to conservation and protection of environmental and territorial\udequilibrium, taking care of what is known as "sustainable development".\ud  \udThe current ENI implemented monitoring surveys can be divided as:\ud \ud– Shallow monitoring: spirit levelling surveys, continuous GPS surveys in\udpermanent stations, SAR surveys, assestimeter subsurface compaction\udmonitoring, ground water level monitoring, LiDAR surveys, bathymetrical\udsurveys.\ud \ud– Deep monitoring: reservoir deep compaction trough radioactive markers,\udreservoir static (bottom hole) pressure monitoring.\ud  \udAll the information, gathered through the monitoring network, allow:\ud \ud1. to verify if the produced subsidence is evolving accordingly with the\udsimulated forecast.\ud \ud2. to provide data to revise and adjust the prediction compaction models\ud \ud3. to put in place the remedial actions if the impact exceeds the threshold\udmagnitude originally agreed among the involved parties.\ud  \udENI monitoring plan to measure and monitor the subsidence process, during\udfield production and also after the field closure, is therefore intended to\udsupport a sustainable field development and an acceptable exploitation\udprogramme in which the actual risk connected with the field production is\udevaluated in advance, shared and agreed among all the involved subjects: oil\udcompany, stakeholders and local community (with interests in the affected\udarea)
