. Although the Mesozoic Era played an important role in theevolution and diversification of Elateridae, the Cretaceous click-beetlefauna remains very poorly known. Here we describe Cretopachyderes burmitinus gen. et sp. nov. based ona single specimen from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber. This species isremarkable for its extremely long posterior angles of pronotum, which is aunique character among fossil Elateridae. We discuss the diagnosticcharacters of Cretopachyderes gen. nov. and tentatively place it to subfamily Agrypninaeclose to extant genus Pachyderes Guérin-Méneville, 1829.
