The isotopic signatures of ostracod shells are the result of the temperature\udand composition of their host water and the phenology and ecology of the\udtarget species. Investigations addressing the influence of site-specific\udenvironmental variations on the isotopic ranges of ostracod shells are still\udrare but can provide important information on habitat-dependent variations\udand may signify a seasonally restricted timing of calcification periods. Here\udwe present isotopic signatures (δ18Oostr, δ13Costr) of living Cytheridella ilosvayi (Ostracoda)\udand physical, chemical, and isotopic (δD,\udδ18Owater, δ13CDIC) compositions\udof 14 freshwater habitats (rivers, lakes, canals, marshes, sinkholes) in\udSouth Florida from winter 2013 and summer 2014. We also present instrumental\uddata of river temperatures and δ18O of precipitation\ud(δ18Oprec) from this region. The physicochemical and\udisotopic compositions of the selected sites characterize the different\udhabitats and show the influence of the source water, biological activity, and\udduration of exposure to the surface. Mean δ18Oostr and\udδ13Costr signatures of C. ilosvayi shells\udcorrelate well with the isotopic composition of their host waters.\udWithin-sample variabilities in repeated isotopic measurements of single\udostracod shells reflect habitat-dependent ranges. The similarly high range of\udostracod δ18O in rivers and one marsh sample indicates that both\udtemperature and δ18Oprec are responsible for their\udvariation in the whole study area. Rivers and canals, which are predominantly\udinfluenced by the input and mixing of inorganic carbon from the catchment,\udshow smaller δ13Costr ranges than the marsh dominated\udby local fluctuations in biological activities.\ud \udBased on these observations, background data of water temperatures and\udδ18Oprec were used to calculate monthly δ18O\udvariations in a theoretical calcite formed in rivers in Florida assuming a\uddirect reaction on precipitation changes. The calculated values showed a high\udvariation coupled with low mean values during the summer wet season, while\udduring the winter dry season the variation remains small and mean values\udincreased. Inferred configurations were used to approximate possible\udcalcification periods of C. ilosvayi. For a plausible calcification period, mean values\udand ranges of δ18Oostr had to be equal to the theoretical\udcalcite with a slight positive offset (vital effect). The applied model\udsuggests a seasonal calcification period of C. ilosvayi in early spring that is\udprobably coupled to the hydrologic cycle of Florida
